James W. Johnson of Vienna, VA, age 83, died February 23, 2013, from cancer. He is survived by Marie F. Johnson, his beloved wife of 56 years.

Born March 27, 1929, in Racine, WI, Jim was the son of the late Theresa and Carl Johnson and is predeceased by his brother, Richard Johnson. Jim graduated from Powell Jr. High (1945) and Central HS (1948) in Washington, DC and was named the All-High Quarterback and Linebacker for the Central HS Vikings football team. He graduated from George Washington University in 1954 with a BA in Business Administration and served as President of Sigma Chi fraternity. Jim’s unit of the 260th Antiaircraft Artillery Group of DC’s National Guard was called up for active duty in the Korean War from 1950-1952.  In 1954, Jim joined the FBI and served for 30 years. During 19 years in New York City as an agent and squad supervisor, he was involved in many notable investigations and arrests in Russian espionage cases. From 1974-1984, he worked in the Washington, DC FBI headquarters as Supervisory agent, a member of the national inspection staff, Unit Chief, and subsequently Assistant Section Chief of the Intelligence Division. Following his FBI retirement, Jim worked as an independent contractor with other federal agencies and supervised security during construction of the FBI Engineering Research Facility and Washington Metropolitan Field Office.  Jim is also survived by his four children Linda M. Wood (Kent), Kathleen J. Anderson (Joe), Scott A. Johnson (Gigi), and Monica J. Deaver (Eric) and eight grandchildren Elyse, Dana, Oscar, Connor, Jaime, Jacques, Allie, and Claire.   A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3513 N Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007.
