BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Society's Board of Directors is comprised of a President, Secretary and Treasurer as well as Regional Vice Presidents from the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, North Central, South Central Western, Florida and Pacific, regions who are selected by the general membership .


EDWARD M. BURKE, PRESIDENT

Prior to entering the Bureau, Ed served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Vietnam and Japan. He served more than 25 years as a Special Agent. After retiring, Ed started two commercial business in the landscape supply arena. He started the volunteer program at the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and was President of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) for two years. Ed was chair of two regional Society conferences and co-chair of a national conference. He was a trustee on the Foundation Board, served as Western Regional Vice President and was on the Strategic Planning Committee.



KENNETH E. NEU, SECRETARY
Ken Neu was born and raised in Queens, NY. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with Bachelors and Master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He was a design engineer with Raytheon Corporation Space and Information Systems Division before entering on duty with the FBI. He served in Milwaukee, New York, FBI Laboratory, Tampa, Philadelphia and Houston, where he became a SSA in 1981. He transferred to the Violent Crime Unit at FBIHQ in 1990. In 1995, he became Unit Chief of the Safe Streets and Gang Unit. In 1999, he became Assistant Section Chief of the Violent Crimes and Major Offenders Section. After retiring, he worked for the Gavin Group auditing Catholic Dioceses regarding compliance with the Child Protection Charter adopted by the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops. In 2006, he and his wife, Diane, relocated to FL. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Ocean Hammock Property Owners Association, the Rotary Club of Flagler County and is a Trustee of the Hammock Community Church. He is an associate member of the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association, a life member of the IACP, a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners International.


DENNIS LORMEL, TREASURER

As a Street Agent, supervisor and senior executive in the FBI, Dennis amassed major-case experience, particularly in complex, document and labor-intensive financial-related investigative matters. In December 2000, he was promoted to Chief of the FBI’s Financial Crimes Program. Immediately following the terrorist attacks of September 2001, he formulated, established and directed the FBI’s comprehensive terrorist financing initiative. His efforts evolved into the formation of a formal Section within the Counterterrorism Division of the FBI, known as The Terrorist Financing Operations Section. For his contributions, he received numerous commendations and awards to include the Department of Justice, Criminal Division’s Award for Investigative Initiative and the CIA’s George H. W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism. Over the last nine years, he has provided risk advisory consulting services as the founder and President of DML Associates, LLC, a full-service investigative consultancy


STEVEN H. SUROWITZ, NORTHEAST REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Steve is a 1976 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1982 from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, and was admitted to the Massachusetts state bar in 1982. He worked for a law firm in downtown Boston for two years, prior to joining the FBI as a Special Agent on June 18, 1984, entering through the Boston Division. Steve’s initial assignment in 1984 was in the Minneapolis Division, where he conducted criminal investigations on the Violent Crime and Organized Crime/Drug Squads. He is married with three children. In 1989, Steve was transferred to the New York to work on a Soviet FCI squad. After the first WTC bombing in 1992, he transferred to an International Terrorism squad, where he worked until his 1994 promotion to Associate Division Counsel in the NYO Legal Unit. In 1999 Steve was promoted to SSA and supervised an operational FCI squad targeting a major foreign power. In 2004, Steve was promoted to Chief Division Counsel of the Newark Division. Since his retirement in 2012, Steve has taught National Security Law (FISA) classes at the DIA Advanced Investigator Course in Quantico, Virginia, and has taught 4th Amendment law, deadly force, use of force, arrest, search, and seizure to the DOE Protective Force Officers working at three DOE national laboratories. He is currently on the final year of a five year contract with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, providing security consulting and flying to California to provide quarterly legal training to PFD personnel, management, and legal staff. Steve has been a member of the Jersey Shore Chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI (SFSAFBI) since his retirement in 2012, and works on the Society’s Ad Hoc HR218 (LEOSA) sub-committee. He is a member of the FBIAA and Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).


THOMAS L. FRIELDS, MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

Tom Frields was born and raised in Western Kentucky and received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1967. He entered on duty with the FBI in November, 1970, and first served in Omaha working applicant and general criminal matters. He worked Organized Crime until transferred to the Laboratory Division in 1974. He worked in the Engineering Section through several division evolutions until reassigned to the Operations Management Section during the FOIMS era. In his next assignment at WFO, Tom supervised the Technical Services Squad for several years starting in 1988 and an International Terrorism squad from 1994 until his retirement. Following retirement, Tom took a position with Booz Allen Hamilton, serving as a Counterintelligence Officer at the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency until again retiring in 2012. Tom has served on the Society’s Nominating Committee for the past three years, the Historical Committee, authoring articles for the Grapevine, and the Society Calendar project. He volunteers with the Boothbay Region Historical Society in Boothbay Harbor, ME.


JOHN S. DETLOR, PACIFIC REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

Born in Canada, John moved to Seattle, WA at the age of 11. He received a BA degree in Business Administration from Whitworth College (now University), in Spokane, WA in 1962 and a J.D. degree from Willamette University, College of Law, in Salem, OR in 1964. John entered on duty as a Special Agent in August of 1964. His Bureau career took John to Albuquerque, Los Angeles, and Seattle. During his time in Seattle, he worked a wide variety of criminal cases. In addition, he served as Principal Legal Advisor and as Applicant Coordinator and, for several years before retirement, he supervised the Organized Crime/Drug squad. Following retirement from the FBI, in August of 1989, John was hired by Costco Wholesale as their first Director of Security. He was soon given additional responsibility which resulted in hiring another retired Agent as Director of Security so that John could handle his additional responsibilities. At the time of John’s retirement from Costco in 2007, he was an Assistant Vice President with responsibility for Operational Procedures for Costco warehouses (stores); Operations Auditors, who checked on compliance with procedures; as well as Security. Since retirement from Costco, John has been involved in working with several non-profit organizations.He served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chair of the Evergreen (Washington State) chapter and as Co-Chair of the Western Regional Conference that was held in Bellevue, WA in 1996. Although he has not held an office in the chapter in recent years, he supports the chapter in an effort to attract former Agents who are not active in the chapter and has attended a number of the Society’s annual conferences. He also organized a 50th Anniversary Reunion of his New Agents Class in conjunction with the 2014 conference. He looks forward to serving as Pacific Regional Vice President.


MICHAEL J. PRENDERGAST, NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT  
Born and raised in the Chicago area, Mike is a 1976 graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. Mike’s initial position in 1977 with the FBI was in the Uniform Crime Reporting Section at HQ, eventually earning a Bachelor of Arts in accounting to qualify under the SA Accountant Program. Following New Agents Training in 1979, Mike was assigned to the Minneapolis Division working reactive and WCC matters. In 1983, Mike was transferred to the NYO to work extensive international fraud matters. Mike was transferred in late 1985 to the Hostage Rescue Team to handle all of the logistic and administrative matters, and returned to WFO to work public corruption and eventually terrorist matters being involved in the Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, working in Malta during 1989. Mike then received an OP transfer to the Gary RA, Indianapolis Division, working corruption, WCC, and gang matters. Mike became the SSRA for the Merrillville RA, became the EAP Coordinator as well as the Civil Rights Coordinator for the Division and retired in April 2011. In June 2000, Mike was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church, Diocese of Gary, and has since been assigned as the Diocesan Coordinator of Jail and Prison Ministry, mainly at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, IN. Mike has volunteered at Opportunity Enterprises, a not-for-profit addressing the needs of other-abled individuals and also volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Mike has been a member of the Indianapolis chapter of the Society since his retirement in 2011.


GUADALUPE GONZALEZ, SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT
Born and raised in the Corpus Christi, TX area, Lupe attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Degree in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting in 1975. He attended Officer Candidate School in the USMC and attained the rank of Captain. Following New Agents training in 1980, he was assigned to the following Divisions: San Antonio, St. Louis and San Juan, Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico, he was promoted to Supervisor of the Organized Crime Squad. In 1987, he was selected as the Supervisor of the Year by the Federal Executive Board for the District of Puerto Rico. During his tenure in San Juan, he also was a member of the SWAT Team and the Informant Coordinator for the Division. From San Juan, Lupe received a lateral transfer to the McAllen RA, of the San Antonio Division to start the first Drug Squad for the FBI on the South Texas Border with Mexico. He was then transferred to the Inspection Division at FBIHQ to the Review and Analysis Unit. Lupe later served as the ASAC in Portland, OR; the Criminal SAC in Los Angeles and the SAC in the Phoenix Division. While in Phoenix, he was the recipient of a Presidential Rank award, and he retired as the SAC of the Dallas Division. In 2006, he retired from the FBI and became a Director with Deloitte and Touche, one of the big four accounting firms. During his time at Deloitte, he was assigned to develop the Forensic Accounting practices for Deloitte in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Panama and the Cayman Islands. Lupe retired from Deloitte in September, 2015 and joined a small forensic accounting firm in Dallas. Lupe is a member of the Dallas chapter of the Society. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the North Texas Crime Commission since his retirement from the FBI.


KEVIN FRYSLIE, WESTERN REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT   
  Kevin Fryslie his professional career as a Police Officer with the San Jose PD in 1977, and obtained an MPA in 1981. Kevin began New Agents Class in 1983 and was initially assigned to San Francisco where he worked VC. He transferred to Albuquerque where he worked OC/D and WCC matters, and later to WFO where he worked FCI. While at WFO, he was assigned to the Iran-Contra Independent Counsel. He became an SSA in the Program Evaluation Unit in 1988. Kevin was an SSA in Anchorage from 1991–1995. He was Unit Chief for the Budget Formulation and Presentation Unit from 1995–1998. Kevin then worked as the SSRA in the Ogden RA and supervised Utah’s five RAs. He was selected as ASAC in Salt Lake City in 2003. While ASAC, he worked as the FBI On-Scene Commander in Afghanistan for four months in 2005-2006. He was selected as a Special Assistant to the EAD — Administration in 2006 and became SAC in Anchorage in 2007. He retired from the FBI in December 2010. After FBI retirement, Kevin joined the Anchorage Police Department and served as a Police Officer from 2011–2017. He has worked as a BICS Special Investigator since his FBI retirement and continues to do so. Kevin joined the Society in 2011 and reinstituted the former Alaska chapter, which had been non-operational for a few years. He served as the Alaska Chapter Chair from 2011–2017. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Anchorage Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association and was the Member of the Year in 2016. In 2017, he and his wife, Gay, moved to Green Valley, AZ.


ARTHUR L. KRINSKY, SOUTHEAST REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT   
  Arthur L. Krinsky was assigned to Memphis, Atlanta, Cleveland and finally back to Atlanta. He spent his entire career as a “Street Agent,” working numerous violations including fugitives, bank robberies, narcotics, organized crime and numerous other violations. He was a certified undercover Agent, a Legal Adviser and a Master Police Instructor. In both Atlanta and Cleveland, he was a Chapter Representative in the FBI Agents Association and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Coordinator. He is now Head of Arthur L. Krinsky and Associates, Inc., providing investigative, consulting and training services to private business/industry, law enforcement and governmental agencies. He is a Team Adam Consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and a Project Alert Volunteer. He is also a reserve Captain for the Winterville, GA Police Department. 


 

EILEEN ROEMER, FLORIDA REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT   
  Eileen Roemer worked 21 years in the FBI, retiring in 2006. She worked in Louisville and New York, the Missing and Exploited Children’s Task Force and Behavioral Analysis Unit at Quantico, as SSRA in Gulfport, MS and as Senior FBI Liaison to the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, DC. Following retirement, Eileen worked as a contractor for the National Counterterrorism Center and U.S. Central Command in Tampa where she provided liaison to FBI Tampa. She retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Captain.
