Martyrs & Remembrance

The Martyrs and Remembrance program is the Foundation’s way of honoring our fallen Agents, especially Service Martyrs. Over the years, the Society has contributed to many memorials and memorial services. In 2015, the Foundation sponsored the 20th anniversary memorial service for William Christian at the National Law Enforcement Memorial. The Foundation created the Miami Martyrs and Memorial Fund, in an effort to support the design of a fully-interactive memorial display in the Miami Field Office honoring Special Agents Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove, killed in a shootout on April 11, 1986, as well as the other five Agents wounded, which came to fruition in April 2016, in time for the 30th anniversary.

That day changed not just the FBI, but all of American law enforcement. We will continue to try to make good come from that tremendous loss. And we will never, ever forget.
Director Comey

The best way we as Agents and formerAgents can honor the memories of our Fallen Heroes is to continue to live our lives in the light of Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity so that their sacrifices will not have been in vain.

This memorial, depicting the events of 30 years ago in Miami, tells the tale of that tragic day and also the courage under fire of those Agents on April 11. I am proud that our Society members came together to fund this memorial, which sets a new standard for the remembrance of FBI service martyrs.
Brian Jerome, Honorary Chairman of the Miami Memorial

Another new project we have initiated as part of our Martyrs and Remembrance program isour Service Martyrs Flag project. The Foundation is working with the FBI Agents Association to make sure that we continue to honor our FBI Service Martyrs. A volunteer from one of our chapters, along with an FBIAA member, is placing an American flag, with the appropriate tag on it, signifying that it is from our Foundation and the FBIAA, on the graves of our Service Martyrs just prior to the anniversary of their deaths. When possible, we are notifying the family members and allowing them to participate in a brief ceremony.
