NATIONAL POLICE WEEK


National Police Week  -- Sunday, May 15 through Saturday, May 21, 2016 (Please note: Because May 15, 2016 falls on a Sunday, some events will take place before the official dates of police week in 2016.)

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.”

Here are some of the events planned, as shown on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund website:

21st Annual LawRide
May 8, 2016—11:00 am
LawRide | Procession will assemble at RFK Stadium/Armory (19th and East Capitol Street, NE) at 7:00 am; kick-stands up time of 10:45 am for the ride to the Memorial for wreath laying ceremony and presentations 11 am-noon.

28th Annual Candlelight Vigil
