Welcome...
Welcome to the web site of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Inc. The Society is a fraternal, educational and community minded organization comprised of approximately 8,000 members who served with honor in the defense of America as Special Agents in the FBI. Each of our members had pledged fidelity, bravery, and integrity in the conduct of investigations on behalf of the people of the United States. In the spirit of that oath, we continue to support the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The vision for a Society was sparked in February 1937 at the Lincoln Hotel in New York City. A small group of former FBI Agents met to discuss the preservation of the friendships formed during Bureau service. In July 1937, the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI was founded. Since that time, the Society has fulfilled a social function for its members and has focused on two primary objectives:preserving the FBI heritage in a spirit of friendship, loyalty and goodwill, and aiding and supporting the FBI.
Gradually from New York City the Society spread across the country as new chapters were formed. Today the Society consists of eight geographic regions. Each region is headed by a Regional Vice-President. Leadership of the Society resides with the National Board of Directors which includes: a President, President-elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Foundation Chairman and the eight Regional Vice-Presidents. These Officers are elected by the membership.
On May 31, 1957, the Society founded the Former Agents of the FBI Foundation. The Foundation, known as "The Heart of the Society," is a charitable organization dedicated to the public welfare through the alleviation of suffering and the advancement of science, education, and cultural arts. Currently, the Foundation has a trust with a corpus of approximately $5 million. Each year the Foundation provides assistance grants to members of the FBI family in need of financial assistance.
