THE SOCIETY'S PUBLIC ADVOCACY EFFORTS

Heading Text

The Society’s Mission is to preserve our shared FBI values; to support the welfare of our members through services, benefits, and career networking; to offer programs of fellowship, education, service and history; and to promote the FBI and law enforcement/ national security communities.  Clearly our mission places a key on advocacy in support of our members, the FBI, law enforcement, and our national security communities. Our advocacy goals are set forth:

1.  Support and Defend the FBI

2.  Highlight the Cyber Threat

3.  Safeguard America’s Children

4.  Address Topical Issues of Importance

5.  Respond to Media Inquiries

Our advocacy efforts currently reflect all of the above issues. Efforts on the forefront right now are the Society’s efforts to highlight the plight of member Bob Levinson, taken while on Kish Island in Iran; to ensure that murderer Leonard Peltier is not released from jail; to ensure that Service Martyr John Bailey’s murderer is not released from jail, as well as to call for resolution of the lengthy investigation into member Richard Bell and his two sons.

Your Society has also urged Senate leaders to renew key sections of the USA Patriot Act and pass key Cyber legislation. Our advocacy efforts were responsible for several Op-Ed pieces including one in defense of the FBI Laboratory.

HR 218 Reform Legislation - HR 6105

As you know the Society’s  reform efforts regarding  HR 218, has been turned into H.R. 6105 in the House of Representatives on June 14th, 2018.

If you have not already done so, please use the link below to contact your Congressman and urge them to support this bill.  When you enter your address and zip code, the link will connect you to your congressional  representative.  You will have to note which topic it addresses which will be either Judiciary or Law Enforcement.  Your comments should address the fact that you are a current or former FBI Agent and a constituent. Urge your member of Congress to become a co-sponsor of this bill as it greatly improves current concealed carry laws by easing restrictions on carrying for current and retired law enforcement officers. These law enforcement professionals are in every community throughout the country and have completed extensive training to properly handle and utilize firearms. Properly armed they can greatly assist in keeping America safe.

For those of you who are represented by Representative  Don Bacon (NE) – please thank him for introducing this important legislation. If your Representative is either  Scott Perry (PA-04) or John Rutherford (FL-04), please thank them for being original co-sponsors for H.R. 6105, the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act.
