Special Agent Jack H. Borden served in the FBI from 1942 to 1945. This interview took place on August 18, 2009. Interviewed by Brian R. Hollstein. SA Borden was interviewed soon after his 101st birthday. He was born in Weatherford, TX, and still lived there at the time of the interview. SA Borden tells of his early life, his education, and how he managed to get a law degree from the University of Texas in the middle of the Depression. He served as District Attorney and Mayor of Weatherford, then applied to U.S. Army Intelligence, but washed out because he was color blind. He was encouraged to try the FBI and was appointed, dependent on the physical – which he passed and which makes a good story. SA Borden’s first assignment was in the Savannah Field Office with a road trip to South Carolina. He was then transferred to the Miami Field Office and, in six months, was transferred to the New York Field Office. He refused this transfer and his Special Agent-in-Charge instead sent him to the Jacksonville Division’s Tallahassee Resident Agency (RA), where he remained until being transferred to the Palm Beach RA. His next request was for a transfer to Texas, although the one office he didn’t mention was the Houston Field Office, where he was sent. Again, he was assigned to a road trip until he resigned to work with another Former Agent on a special investigation. SA Borden concludes his interview with several stories of his Special Agent days and then of his life as a lawyer over the years in Weatherford. He ends with some good advice for all young Agents that he received long ago.Download PDF 1
