Saul Charles Tocker
  1969-2020

Date of Death: December 20, 2020 in the performance of duty resulting from 9/11.

Cause of Death: On the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 77 was commandeered by terrorists and crashed into the Pentagon penetrating the building’s five rings. A 200-foot fireball rose above the building, engulfing the surrounding area with smoke. Less than an hour later, a 100-foot section of the Pentagon’s outer ring collapsed. Supervisory Investigative Specialist Saul C. Tocker deployed to the Pentagon site, where he worked 12-hour shifts for more than 10 days. He sifted through debris on the ground, including human remains and personal effects. Tocker was later diagnosed with gallbladder cancer that spread to his liver. He died on December 20, 2020. Extensive research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health established sufficient evidence that his exposure to the air in and around the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack either precipitated or accelerated the cancer. Tocker was born April 3, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland. He joined the FBI in July 1990. Remembering Saul Tocker by Director Christopher Wray.
